Virtual Book Club for Kids

Greetings Fellow Book Dragons!

Since even before Maddox was born, I have been reading to him.  By the time he was a year and a half old, we had already completed a program at our local library called 1000 Books Before Kindergarten!  We've since finished that challenge again at another local library, so he's currently at a count of 2446 on Goodreads, which doesn't include the stacks we read yesterday and today!  Nor does it even begin to count the thousands more rereads!  So needless to say, my son LOVES books!

He's now three, and while we've been participating in activities over the years that revolved around books, I wanted to document our process in this year's Virtual Book Club for Kids since I have restarted blogging!  And for those of you with children, I wanted to encourage you to participate with your kids as well.

This book club is specially designed for preschool (2-5) kids and will feature a new book with a coordinating theme each week during the 2016-2017 school year.  Hosted by Toddler Approved, there will also be additional co-hosts that will provide links to activity ideas.  Join the Facebook group to see the activities that will announced for that week as well as share what you're doing, get more ideas, or just simply connect with others.  The primary goal is to read the featured book and do at least one activity during the week, but you decide what works for you and your children.  I try to do one activity a day, but even that can sometimes be too much when dealing with a headstrong preschooler and a mobile toddler.

The first book started yesterday, which is Ten Apples Up On Top.  You can find a downloadable printable for the book list through October, which I will link here.  Otherwise, the list includes:

September 12 - Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss

September 19 - Should I Share My Ice Cream? by Mo Willems

September 26 - Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert

October 3 - Five Little Pumpkins by Dan Yaccarino

October 10 - Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle

October 17 - The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle

October 24 - Time for Bed by Mem Fox

October 31 - Owl Babies by Martin Waddell

I hope this all makes sense!  But if not, please check out the provided links for more information.  Being sick myself with a teething baby has made the nights interesting and thus the day runs together in a big blur!  I really hope you can share these great book selections with your children and try an activity or two!

Happy Reading!
