An unwelcome visitor, an unrequited love, and a dead body create chaos in a middle-aged woman’s plan for a productive summer.

Despite a looming divorce, an empty checkbook, and a struggling cleaning business, Cece Cavanaugh is determined to land on her own two feet. Adamant about staying a safe distance from the handsome detective who has her fantasizing about violating the morals clause in her prenuptial agreement, Cece dives headlong into her work.

Even though she has no free time to spare, Cece finds herself guilted into cleaning a hoarder’s home. Her discoveries in the condemned house are too shocking to ignore. Diamond-laden pachyderms, a secret cache of money, and a dead body lure Cece into launching an investigation that places her in direct contact with the one person she’s desperate to avoid–hunky Detective Case Alder.

With clues in hand, Cece runs down leads and eliminates suspects one by one. Her conclusion and brave accusation put a friend’s life in peril forcing Cece to hatch a plan to outsmart the killer. A daring move could either save Cece and her friend or lead to their demise.

CHARACTER GUEST POST

Hey, I’m Nancy. I’ve wiggled myself back into Cece’s life. Not that I wanted to, but I had no
choice. She never expected to see me again, but it’s her fault I lost my job, so I figure she can
deal with it. Guess I should tell you a bit about myself. Though, I never reveal my age or my
weight. I will tell you ‘my girls’ are a healthy CC, and they are my very own. No enhancement in
that department. But enough about my attention-getters.

Cece and I met when she came to work for Bonafide, CSC. I thought she was a bit too goody-
goody to clean crime scenes, but she managed to pull it off. Now me, no thank you. I don’t do
blood, guts, and gore. And I don’t want to break a nail. I spend way too much time keeping
them nice looking to risk it.

I’ve been married a time or two, or maybe three, if you count the time in Vegas with the fake
Elvis. I may have had too many rum cocktails. Before I shoved my way back into Cece’s life, I
worked at Bonafide, CSC as a secretary. Mostly I filed and answered the phone. I had a lot of
time to keep my nails in good shape too. I already mentioned Cece caused me to lose my job.
Actually, the guy I worked for closed up and moved to Florida, leaving me homeless and jobless.
He had a duplex and let me live in one side. Well, he sold it and told me I had to move. Losing
my job and my home at the same time was about all I could handle. I don’t do stress, either.

Before Bonafide, I held a variety of jobs. My favorite was sort of like telemarketing. Only it was
different, these guys would call me, and I had to ask them all sorts of personal questions. It paid
the bills, and I met all sorts of interesting people. Not met as in met them personally, that was
against all the rules, but after talking so much I felt like I knew them. I knew their habits, what
they liked, what they didn’t like.

I also worked as a waitress, but that didn’t work out so well. I kept getting the orders mixed up,
and those trays were so heavy. The first two or three times I dropped one, the manger was
pretty nice about it, but eventually he made me pay for all the broken dishes. When my tab got
to be more than my weekly paycheck, I had to quit. It was costing me way too much to work
there.

If I have my say about it, I’m going to be hanging around Cece’s for a while. She lives in a big
house and it’s only her and her one kid, so there’s plenty of room.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tricia L. Sanders writes cozy mysteries and women’s fiction. She adds a dash of romance and a sprinkling of snark to raise the stakes. Her heroines are humorous women embarking on journeys of self-discovery all the while doing so with class, sass, and a touch of kickass.
Tricia is an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, so don’t get between her and the television when a game is on. Currently, she is working on a mystery series set in the fictional town of Wickford, Missouri. Another project in the works is a women’s fiction road trip adventure.
A former instructional designer and corporate trainer, she traded in curriculum writing for novel writing, because she hates bullet points and loves to make stuff up. And fiction is more fun than training guides and lesson plans.

  1. Nancy and I thank you for having us on today. Mostly me, because she can be a bit snarky. Anyway, I appreciate the shout out for Death, Diamonds, and Freezer Burn.
